Old Geezers Often Cry
(Parody of Old Gangsters Never Die by Alan Moore)
by Isabella M.H Wesoly © 2022
Old geezers often cry,
Except the rare that fondle joysticks in the night
Sat there playing virtual fights
For the grandchildren or their friends to find.
And if I cry - God knows, I might - don’t make a meal of the sight.
Do make me wake up on the screen
With specters of past hood
Strumming in the garden sipping beer,
Then spoke, and called their bluffs, and measured time,
And reached inside to get inspired by rich with ease men,
Teardrops falling in the hidden sight,
Their strong, glass jars mounted in a stack,
Their strings wound-up in circles
And Jimi Hendrix’s name in richest blue-truth lean upon their tongue,
A cool breeze on the forehead
Left beside the thinking plain.
I could cry willfully, right now
‘Cause buddy, I now have a head of fearful memories,
And as I do believe I know that they’re installed
And gals like me take time to sift their flow in lament
With those without a place which they can call a home, within their breathing space.
Like reading Shakespeare - knowing of the Bardic I am
You sit, and, wondering of the ageing spam
Reach forward past within framed dimensions,
Rabbit-runs marked like paths well trodden
In mud lines across your mind
Or sinking. Do you know, that hooded yards and geezers get the state
Of mind the bending see but never seen
And I in deepest thinking dare to cry again in all this bliss
And call you mate
To leave you with alacrity
Is a diamond. Geezer.
Why, birds like this have fire in their eyes
And when dancing in circles of winding flow
They must have looked like stars in milky ways, sfumato
In a steam filled sky
Old geezers love to cry.
Say, wouldn’t it be nice to eat a wholesome dinner
On a plate of mother’s china in the dresser, where you never
Put a mug down inside and respected clay arrays
Me old china
Cups in the light
None of that plastic
And aerosol sprays,
Like a fisher’s net of hair someone left the cake out in the rain
So we ate bagels down near Brick Lane
With pastrami munchy-kins and music outside
To hold off the lore of lie sense free to try
Old geezers have to cry.
Hey, Juli! I got top up for the gas, waiting to slot the wall
Enjoy the warmth,
And when you feel your toes again there in your pink socks sweating
Grace reality.
Cold tentacles upon the nostrils, for sweat will reek us, Julz,
And one must never harm one’s nostrils
Of this we know
And as I swear an oath, to have never heard a pair of feet
To know the buzz of bunions in the shoe
Or turned up noses, with pegs fair
And dare.
Hey, fellahs! are those plates cold on your ambient cheeks?
Do you warm them up between the sheets?
Geezers chat different from fellahs,
Never listen to scratched records, or your nostrils will weep, oozing
Watery entrails from thine eye
Old spooks call from the tea-cup.
Old dreams hold rusty thinking.
Old bodies can write stories.
Old geezers need to cry.

I've thoroughly enjoyed this BBC online course, especially for leading me back to writing poetry again. 'Time Circles Space' has become something of an adage for me, especially after emerging from so many deep dark rabbit holes - Creating new habit roles needed them!
The journey continues, walking with Moore, along those less travelled roads, and through the darkest channels of imagination - vital for the directing wand!
